I have some concerns about methane catalyst. Everyone can help me.
How much is the maximum sulfur concentration in feedgas (methanator)?
With H2S content (very small) on methanation reactor, how does it affect methanation catalyst and synthesys catalyst?
Dear sir, all catalyst of the front end will be severely poisoned by the time sulphur arrives to the methanator. It is particularly dangerous to allow sulphur poisoning at primary reformer. Is your desulphurization unit not working properly?.
There is some sulphur content in the HT catalyst since some insoluble sulphates are used in the preparation (this will depend on the specific catalyst supplier formulation). LT shift acts as a barrier to impede sulphur carryover to methanator. it will be present in higher concentrations specially at start of run.
ICI catalyst handbook states that if sulphur is present it will poison the catalyst due to pore-mouth pooisoning (clogs the entrance to catalyst pores). This will increase the O-carrying slip to synthesis loop, poisoning its Fe-based catalyst. you may increase methanator inlet temperature to increse reaction rate and compensate for active sites loss.
